Spring Menu at DC Harvest Features Several New Seasonal Dishes

15 May

Cafe Steak at DC Harvest

Earlier this spring as the weather began to warm up, DC Harvest rolled out several new dinner dishes to highlight the flavors of the season.  DC Harvest frequently adds items to its seasonal menu, but the spring menu update features more new items than usual as the only entree that regulars will recognize is the crispy quinoa cakes.  New items include a crispy turkey katsu with black rice and a spicy yuzo avocado sesame pesto, grilled rainbow trout with seasonal vegetables, and a spring edamame and leek pancake with smoked shad (appetizer).  You can view the entire dinner menu here.

Papperdelle with Spring Vegetables at DC Harvest

District Cuisine stopped by recently to explore the new items and experiences.  We started out with the cherry blossom cocktail that has been added to the bar menu for spring.  The cocktail features Leopold Brothers Maraschino liquor, rhubarb bitters, rosewater, and prosecco for a drink that balances sweetness with refreshment perfectly.  If the cocktail stays on the menu as the weather continues to heat up, we will likely be back to cool off on humid days with one of these.  After sharing some of the bacon and asiago “doughnuts” (admittedly a staple from the appetizer section of the menu), we tried the pan roasted cafe steak with peas, sunchokes, onions, and smokey mustard vinaigrette steak sauce.  We were unacquainted with the cut previously, but it was a tender and flavorful piece of steak that was grilled medium rare and paired nicely with the veggies.  While not a traditional steak sauce, the mustard vinaigrette was delicious.  We also tried the papperdelle with a trio of spring vegetables: asparagus, artichokes, and shiitake mushrooms.  The pasta was topped with a ramp pesto and slices of chilis that added a spicy pop to the dish.  The fresh pasta and ramp pesto combined nicely with the spring vegetables to be a true taste of all the season has to offer.

The spring menu at DC Harvest features several great new options.  But, as the restaurant frequently changes its menu, you better hurry in if you want an opportunity to try all of them.

Smoked Chicken Breast at DC Harvest

Dish of the week is an ongoing series from District Cuisine that highlights one of our favorite dishes from a local restaurant.

District Cuisine’s Dish of the Week returns this week with a featured dish on the DC Harvest spring menu: the smoked chicken breast.  The dish features a generous portion of slow smoked chicken  (with a nice crispy skin) plated over sauteed greens and cranberries with a spicy syrup drizzled over it.  The smokey flavor of the chicken could standalone but is enhanced and made even more interesting by the accompaniments.  The dish is finished with a cheddar grit cake on the side.
