Capitol Fine Wine and Spirit
Capitol Fine Wine and Spirit (415 H Street) has a new exterior featuring glass windows (minus the bars that had previously been on them). The store had begun construction on a new exterior that had been shut down due to a lack of permits. The new exterior is a welcome improvement compared to the previous one.
The Now Closed Danny Todd’s Right Off of H Street
Our friends at Frozen Tropics have the scoop that a new restaurant called DC Diner will be opening soon in the spot that previously was Danny Todd’s (802 13th Street). More details here.
Washington Cash and Carry Leaving 1270 4th Street in Preparation for Major Redevelopment
Signage is up for the relocation of the Washington Cash and Carry in Union Market (1270 4th Street, NE–the very large building just south of Masseria on 4th Street, NE). It was announced awhile ago that the Cash and Carry would be relocating to Landover, Maryland to make way for a complete redevelopment of the block. A large residential building called the Shapiro and a major retail space managed by Edens (which owns Union Market) are planned. According to the Washington Business Journal, celebrity chef Jose Garces will be opening a large market as part of the building.
6th and H Bar and Grill Exterior
6th and H Bar and Grill (523 H Street), which only opened a few months ago, is now listed for sale (h/t to Popville for having it first). According to the real estate posting, the property can be yours for a mere $3 million. Despite being listed for sale, as of this weekend, the restaurant was still open and operating as usual.
Starbucks Coming Soon to H Street, NE
We’re a couple of days late to this, but initial signage has gone up for the Starbucks that will be coming soon to the new apartment building at 625 H Street (there is an Unleashed by Petco coming to the same building). Based upon the construction, it is probably safe to say that Starbucks will open this spring at some point.
New Signage at DC Harvest
DC Harvest (517 H Street) recently put up new signage outside of the restaurant and has launched a bunch of new nightly specials. For example, Tuesday is now date night where you can get 2 cocktails, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert for $50 and Wednesday is now pasta night where you can get half off homemade pastas. Chef Yuki Nakandakari at Ocopa on H Street
Several weeks ago Ocopa (1324 H Street) launched lunch with a brand new menu. Ocopa’s lunch menu is designed to be healthy and affordable. If you missed our interview with Ocopa’s new chef from a few weeks ago, check it out here.
Lunch Menu at Ocopa
Demolition has been underway for the past two weeks on the northeast corner of 14th and H Streets (Florida Avenue bounds the back of the block). According to District Source, the block will be redeveloped into a 28 unit residential building with ground floor retail. This will be a welcome development for the block that previously had abandoned buildings on it.
Exterior Construction at Future Apollo Building on H Street
DC Eater has the story that 14th Street based Wydown Coffee will be opening a second location on H Street later this year in the Apollo building where Whole Foods is opening. According to the Eater article, the coffee shop will have a different name but similar items to the 14th Street shop. When it opens up, this coffee shop will be right across the street from the Starbucks that is going in the apartment building across the street.
This addition will add another coffee option to H Street that is further to the east than either Uni Bistro or Sidamo.
Patio at Ocopa
Ocopa (1324 H Street) will be launching brunch featuring a new menu this Saturday. Brunch will run from 11:30 am until 3 pm every Saturday going forward.
