DC Harvest’s New Menu Focuses on Fresh Summer Produce
26 JulDC Harvest 517 H Street, NE has rolled out several new seasonal menu items over the past couple of weeks to highlight the best in produce. Two appetizer salads, while very different from each other, both offer a variety of summer tastes. The snap pea salad complete with pea shoots and baby kale features a clever mix of a lime vinaigrette and a crispy coconut gremolata. The sourness of the lime and the sweetness of the coconut combine to create a refreshing summer starter. The arugula salad features a poppy seed vinaigrette, fresh fruit (blackberries the night we tried it), and goat milk mascarpone.
On the entree front, DC Harvest’s classic Old Bay fried chicken now comes with a half ear of grilled corn with an ancho-orange rub as well as a small watermelon and cucumber salad. In addition, the grilled lamb burger has been added back onto the menu complete with summer garnishes of a green garlic aioli and a pickled green tomato. Diners can add bacon jam or a fried egg to the burger as well. The burger comes with a side of grilled corn and a delicious six bean herb salad. While it was a considerable amount of food with both entrees, District Cuisine’s team cleaned both plates.
Check out DC Harvest’s website here for the complete menu and nightly specials.

Taste of Jamaica Space for Lease on H Street
19 JulTaste of Jamaica (528 H Street) has been open on H Street for over ten years now, but it appears the space is now up for lease. According to a real estate flier recently posted by Streetsense, 528 H Street is available as a two level floor plan with both the ground floor and the 2nd floor. The flyer says that the space includes a large potential patio area on the 6th street side. The property is immediately across 6th Street from where Whole Foods will be opening in the coming months. While Taste of Jamaica has posted hours from 10 am until 9 pm Monday-Friday, in reality its hours have been somewhat variable over the past several years. Of note, this property and the one to its left (526 H Street) are likely to be redeveloped in the near future as there is an application to turn them into a new mixed use building (residential and retail). Two Boots Aims to Open H Street Location in Fall
19 JulWe learned earlier this year that New York based Cajun pizza concept Two Boots would be opening a restaurant at 1025 H Street. Two Boots has a handful of locations including in New York, Tennessee, and Los Angeles. The restaurant’s name refers to the two boots of Italy and Louisiana, as the concept incorporates the cuisines of both regions. While construction has yet to begin on H Street, the owners are hopeful that they can open by late fall. Last week we caught up with the owners to discuss their new location on H Street:
District Cuisine: Why did you decide on H Street for your DC expansion?
Two Boots: We love the gritty feel of the neighborhood–it reminds us of the East Village (where we started) back in the day. One of our favorite spots is the used vinyl shop/shoe store diagonally across the street–we have the same taste in early ’70s soul and r&b.
DC: Will you be open for both lunch and dinner?
TB: Definitely dinner and late night; we’d love to be open for lunch too, Friday-Sunday for sure. We’re looking at being open from 11:30 am until 2:30 am on the weekends.
DC: Will you offer deliver?
TB: Absolutely–a very big part of our business.
DC: Will you serve alcohol?
TB: We’ll have wine and a great selection of beers.
DC: Are you planning any special menu items for the H Street location?
TB: Yes, every Two Boots location has a unique “Home Pie” which uses local ingredients and/or celebrates local luminaries. We’re still working on the H Street pie and would love to get some suggestions!
DC: Anything else that you think we should know?
TB: There will also be an outdoor cafe, occasional live music, and a big pull down screen for when the Mets are whupping the Nats! And just to reiterate, Two Boots (named for the geographical shapes of Louisiana and Italy) features pizza by the slice–with an amazing array of Cajun, organic, vegan, and gluten-free options!
