Notice went up earlier this week that the southern blocks of 8th-10th Streets on H Street will be fenced off starting today (January 16th) for the construction of the new H Street Connection project (more details here). As of this morning, there were no cars in the parking lot, and it appeared that crews were preparing to install a fence around the property.
All Stores Now Closed at H Street Connection in Anticipation of Demolition, Rebuild
30 DecIt appears that all stores are now closed in the H Street Connection strip mall (south side of H Street in between 8th and 10th Streets), including the Rite Aid that anchored the mall. We heard several months ago that all tenants had until December 31st to leave the mall which is scheduled to be demolished in 2016. Over the past several weeks, numerous businesses have held liquidation sales and closed their doors one at a time. The 7-Eleven in the mall recently moved one block to the west. Once demolished, the H Street Connection will be rebuilt as a massive residential and retail development (see more details from Washington Business Journal here).
H Street 7-11 Moving
13 SepThe 7-11 in the H Street Connection shopping mall appears to be moving two blocks to the west in anticipation of the Connection being demolished next year (it will become apartments and retail, details here). A sign popped up in the space at the corner of H and 8th Street (formerly Foot Locker) indicating that a 7-11 was moving into this space.
